KYTX CBS19, the TEGNA CBS affiliate in Tyler, TX is looking for a Supervising Broadcast Director. The person filling this role will be tasked with the directing and switching of our live broadcasts using a Sony XVS6000. The director is the last line of defense of our product before it hits the air. We are seeking an individual who can execute transformation and growth of our visual product in the ever-changing world of live local news. This position is responsible for preparing and punching our locally produced content with the potential to produce special projects. The director works closely with a team of production professionals and news producers to place the most compelling and clean products on the air. We are looking for someone to bring some new, forward-thinking production ideas to the table to help us adapt to a constantly changing viewer base.


• Responsible for day to day supervision, scheduling, guidance, workflow, workload leveling and delegation of tasks and monitoring progress against targets/KPIs

• Ensuring that business goals, deadlines and performance standards are met

• Training and onboarding new hires and ongoing training of staff and others that work closely with team

• Consulting with leadership to keep pertinent guidelines and policies current

• Maintain and update database of all collateral including processes and procedures, training materials, etc.

• Keep record of changes or best practices used in the department

• Assessing the work performance of Broadcast employees and identifying areas for improvement

• Assisting in department recruiting efforts

• Ensuring that quality standards are upheld

• Conducting performance reviews as well as monitoring performance throughout the year

• Deep operational knowledge of Sony XVS6000 and supporting systems.

• Oversee the overall look of our product across multiple platforms.

• Work closely with the Head of Technology to facilitate any changes and updates to our production.

• Find and correct potential problems before they hit the air.

• Must have the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.

• Efficiency with ENPS, Bitcentral, Vertigo, and Sony XVS6000

• Edit content using Edius.

• Potential to work on special projects.

• Other broadcast production duties as assigned.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication with all levels of employees and leadership

• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

• Encouraging to team and staff; able to mentor and lead

• Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions

• Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel

• Minimum of 3 years directing experience required.

• Knowledge and experience with operation and understanding of studio cameras, production switchers, video routers and audio consoles and automation, intercom and graphics systems.

• Ability to work with a flexible schedule is a must. May require mornings, weekends and holidays.

• Ability to work with a team of people to achieve clean newscasts.

• Must be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

• Ability to adapt and quickly change on the fly for breaking news and unexpected special events.
