Chicago’s WBBM Newsradio is in search of a dynamic, forward thinking leader to take this legendary brand into the next decade of award winning journalism. WBBM, a trusted news source for generations of Chicagoans, has been delivering best-in-class reporting over the airwaves for decades and has more recently been building out its digital footprint. We are looking for an innovative strategic thinker with a passion for news and a multi-platform orientation to reimagine how we connect with and engage audiences for even greater success. The Brand Manager oversees editorial strategy and the WBBM newsroom, including broadcast and digital operations, with an eye towards audience and revenue growth and engagement on all platforms. This is a phenomenal opportunity to take the reins of a beloved and powerful long-running news brand with strong ties to its local community and lead it to even greater heights with even deeper connections with its audience.


What You'll Do:


  •       Oversee and manage a diverse, energetic programming and digital team
  •       Set and implement editorial and brand strategy to guide daily newsgathering and    programming output (OTA and digital)
  •       Recruit, direct and coach talent to maintain a culture of excellence and integrity 
  •       Develop and direct execution of station imaging on air and visually online
  •       Work with Market Manager, VP Programming and sales teams on developing sales packages and innovative revenue opportunities
  •       Collaborate with Audacy news brands to optimize sharing and distribution of best original reporting, programming and digital content
  •       Cultivate events and other public initiatives to raise awareness and profile of WBBM brand in local community
  •       Develop and manage strategic editorial and network partnerships
  •       Lead team to ideate new opportunities that engage new and existing audience on multi-platforms beyond OTA to solidify the brand’s strength as a trusted, unbiased, plugged in, and comprehensive news source
  •       Interpret Nielsen data and other audience analytics and research to guide programming and editorial content decisions and audience development tactics
  •       Set clear goals and KPIs and appraise individual and team performance
  •       Ensure brand compliance with FCC regulations and Audacy programming standards


Required & Preferred:

  •   Bachelor’s degree
  •   5+ years of experience managing a large-market news operation 
  •   Demonstrated record of innovation and experimentation in the news realm
  •   Passion for local news and audio storytelling in all forms
  •   Experience managing, coaching and mentoring newsroom management and talent
  •   Excellent communication and presentation skills
  •  Outstanding news judgment and journalistic ethics
  •  Experience working with sales and business teams on revenue generation
  • Command of Nielsen data and digital analytics
  • Understanding of the Chicago Metro news market and competitive landscape
  • Adept at use of Social Media to augment station brand and news delivery to drive listening and audience engagement
  • A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and, if the position requires use of applicant’s own vehicle, proof of insurance, is required.
