DESCRIPTION
WQAD News 8 is looking for an experienced, dynamic, enterprising Anchor. We are searching for someone who understands that anchoring isn't just about reading scripts and reporting isn't just covering news conferences. We are looking for a strong enterprise storyteller and team player who knows how to connect with the community. We want to find Someone who truly loves journalism, telling the stories of our community with authentic personality and care.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for anchoring your assigned newscasts. You will be expected to take a leadership role in the newsroom, assisting with the execution and writing for TV and digital. You will also be expected to turn assigned content for air.
Responsibilities:
- Anchor newscasts as assigned
- Generating unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content.
- Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must
- Excellent use of social media for news gathering/disseminating and community engagement
- Collaborate with a team to produce the creative newscasts and content
- Develop contacts and relationships in the community, community events that includes times outside normal work hours
- Come prepared with story pitches daily

REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
- Minimum 5-7 years news anchor/reporter experience
- Ability to work weekday evenings
- An understanding of current content gathering and production techniques
- A portfolio with examples of strong breaking, general, and feature news anchoring and reporting
- Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
- Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
